Datta Phuge made headlines in January this year when he splashed £14,000 on a shirt made of solid gold. The 32-year-old is hoping he’ll become a hit with the local ladies in central India.
Phuge is a money-lender from Pimpri-Chinchwad and he says 15 goldsmiths worked on the shirt for two weeks working 16 hours every day as they wove together the gold threads. The shirt also has its own set of matching gold cuffs and a set of rings made from the left-over gold. Not to mention six Swarovski crystal buttons and a solid gold belt to match.
Speaking to Indian newspaper, the Pune Mirror, Phuge had this to say:
‘I know I am not the best looking man in the world but surely no woman could fail to be dazzled by this shirt?’ adding that it will be ‘an embellishment to my reputation as the ‘Gold man of Pimpri’’
‘The gold shirt has been one of my dreams.’
